START Something Stupid

Making a decisions has never been a talent of mine - Choosing a topic for a research paper, deciding what to eat at a restaurant...heck...even CHOOSING a restaurant is always a challenge for me, and I often change clothes at least three times every morning!

BUT...

I recently read a book called The Power of Starting Something STUPID by Richie Norton...um OK...I have three pieces of advice for you...Read it!  Love it!  Embrace it!

Richie's whole concept is what he calls Gavin's Law (named after his son, whom he tragically lost to Whooping Cough as an infant) - Gavin's Law is simple: Live to Start, Start to Live!  Richie says it doesn't matter what you start...just START!  He then goes on to say that START is an accronym for...

S - Serve
T - Thank
A - Ask
R - Recieve
T - Trust

START makes sense, right?  But why start something STUPID?  According to Richie (and pretty much every successful individual EVER), Stupid is the NEW SMART!  Ford's automobile, Bell's telephone, Jobs' computer, King's movement for civil rights, the female vote, blogging - all ideas that people thought were stupid fads that would pass.  Ha!  Truth is...people are AFRAID of the unknown - so it is truly FEAR that causes people to think that innovative ideas are stupid.  BUT then what happens?  The trend catches fire, becomes accepted by a few, then adopted by the masses, and eventually we can't imagine our lives without those stupid innovations!

So...what made me realize it was time to Start Something Stupid?  It was Richie's questions, "Will I regret it when I'm 80?"  I am totally guilty of neglecting planning for my future - I have issues with decision-making, remember?  I couldn't even tell you what I plan on having for breakfast tomorrow, let alone what sorts of life decisions will affect me when I'm old and gray.  This realization scared me for several reasons...

1) I believe my purpose in this life is to gain as much knowledge as possible, touch as many lives as possible, and prepare my posterity to do the same.
2) I don't want to sit on my porch (or even on a yacht somewhere) when I'm 80, and say to my husband, "Gee I wish I would have [fill in the blank] when we were younger."
3) I want to find joy the JOURNEY just as much as the DESTINATION!

Well, sounds all find and dandy.  Now the challenge - What stupid thing should I start?  I love so many things!  I am a teacher, mother, wife, singer, gymnast, lover of fitness, sister, freezer food maker, nutrition lover, coach, and even the occasional lawn mower and weed puller (do not mistake that with gardener because I claim no fame to landscape artistry).

Oh geez, I really wish I was better at making choices.  Good thing I'm good friends with Eenie, Meenie, Minie, and Mo!  Turns out they all favor...

Drum Roll Please......

Fitness! Actually this decision wasn't so hard since I am now 2 weeks postpartum and ready to get my body back!

As a life-long gymnastics lover and coach, recent AFAA (Aerboics and Fitness Association of America) certified instructor, I have developed a passion to guide people on their own fitness journeys!  Since becoming a nutritional consultant and weight loss coach, I have been blessed to coach dozens of people from sickness to wellness.

But...what about me?  I humbly or not-so-humbly decided that this particular START project is for me.  I have decided to take my own fitness to the next level, and I truly believe that when my own project succeeds, I will be in a place to be able to serve others more fervently.  With the help of The Biggest Loser game on Xbox Kinect (working out at home is my only option right now with a newborn) and the Isagenix 30 Day Cleansing and Fat Burning System, I plan on doing something stupid...

Entering in the IsaBody Challenge - Sports and Performance category.  I know, stupid, huh?  But, hey...there's over $200,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs, so that's some motivation!!!

A really smart guy, Michael Clouse, said, "If a person's WHY is strong enough, [she] will figure out the HOW!"  Hence the blog - I need your accountability!  I plan on logging the entire 16 week transformation process!  At least three times a week, I will check in and update my status, log my eating and post my workout plan, and post progress pictures!  Mark my words...you will see a huge difference when my journey is through!

Well, here we go!  Cheers to Starting something Stupid!!!

"I plead with you not to let those most important things pass you by as you plan for that illusive and nonexistent future when you will have time to do all that you want to do.  Instead, find joy in the journey - now." Thomas S. Monson
